the benefits of succulents

Thinking about getting in on the succulent craze? So, you can consider joining in on the amazing benefits succulents have to offer, we put together a list of reasons why everyone loves succulents!

  1. Succulents are incredibly low maintenance.
  2. Succulents purify the air.
  3. Succulents are great for mental health.

In this guide, we will further explain the incredible benefits of succulents and how succulents can be used for your wellbeing.

Succulents Are Low Maintenance

The primary reason why succulents are so amazing is that they only have to be watered once every 2-3 weeks. It is well known that many other ornamental or landscaping plants are incredibly high maintenance. Other ornamental plants require daily watering and upkeep. Unlike most ornamental plants succulents are different because they are drought-tolerant, this means that succulents rarely have to be watered. This isn’t just great for water conservation, but it is also amazing for people who are looking for beautiful ornamental plants that do not have to be monitored and cared for daily. All of our succulents only have to be watered once every 2-3 weeks. Some varieties of our indoor succulents only have to be watered once every month. What’s even crazier is that we have even witnessed some of our indoor succulents thrive while only being watered once every two months. Ultimately the major benefit of having succulents is that you will be able to enjoy having plants in your home, garden, patio, or yard without having to follow strict care requirements.

Succulents Purify the Air

Another amazing benefit of succulents is their incredible ability to purify the air of harmful toxins. In a study by NASA “A Study of Interior Landscape Plants for Indoor Air Pollution Abatement” it was shown that plants like succulents can absorb and cleanse the air of harmful cancer causing volatile organic compounds (VOC’s) like benzene and formaldehyde. Succulents can cleanse the air by absorbing and breaking VOC toxins down in their roots and soil. This process in which succulents’ breakdown harmful VOC’s is beneficial because formaldehyde, benzene, and other VOC’s can be found in many household items like glues, paints, adhesives, insulation, cleaning products, tobacco smoke, and building materials.

In addition to this ability to purify the air of harmful toxins, succulents are also able to release fresh oxygen into the air through photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is when succulents absorb carbon dioxide from the air and release pure oxygen. Succulents do this because carbon is an essential element that succulents need to maintain their strength. Without carbon, succulents will begin to wilt and stretch. This need for carbon makes succulents so beneficial to us because carbon is taken from our local air supply and in return fresh oxygen is released.

Succulents Are Great for Mental Health

The final benefit of succulents is that they bring any indoor or outdoor space to life, replicating a feeling of being out in nature. Multiple academic studies have shown, like “The influence of urban green environments on stress relief measures, that being out in nature increases happiness, productivity, relaxation, and outlook. When placing succulents in your home, patio, or yard you are creating a feeling of being out in nature. Similar to being outdoors admiring nature, it is easy to admire the beautiful shapes and colors that succulents bring to any space. This in turn will help your mental health as succulents replicate this feeling of admiration, which will then lead to increased levels of productivity, happiness, relaxation, and outlook.
